Lexicons, Grammars, Concordances & Language Tools

LEXICONS, GRAMMARS, CONCORDANCES & LANGUAGE TOOLS

Careful examination of Scripture requires tools capable of moving beyond translation into the vocabulary, morphology, grammar, syntax, and patterns of usage found in the underlying languages. Lexicons, concordances, grammatical references, morphological databases, and search platforms can expose evidence that is difficult or impossible to see in translation alone.

This collection provides access to research tools for biblical Hebrew, Aramaic, Greek, and the wider linguistic environments relevant to the biblical texts. Resources include historical lexicons, concordances, morphological analyzers, word-frequency tools, original-language search systems, and platforms that connect lexical information with occurrences in primary texts.

These tools must nevertheless be used according to their proper evidentiary function. A concordance establishes occurrences, not meaning. A lexicon documents possible or attested senses, not automatically the sense intended in a particular passage. A morphological analyzer identifies grammatical possibilities but does not by itself resolve syntax or context. Etymology does not control later usage, and an English gloss is not equivalent to the semantic range of the underlying word. Meaning must ultimately be tested against grammar, syntax, chronology, genre, textual context, and attested usage.

The purpose of this collection is therefore not to replace linguistic judgment with reference works, but to provide the tools necessary for disciplined examination of claims made from the languages of Scripture.
